YESTERDAY THE CITY OF TOMORROW- Gestern die Stadt von morgen erfinden

 

A collaborative project of urban arts Ruhr and the network of the Ruhr

yesterday the city of tomorrow is an art project in public space in three locations in the Ruhr cultural metropolis, the new artistic views of the architectural visions for the future of the 1960s and 70s years in Marl, Bochum and Mülheim an der Ruhr throws.

The upbeat mood of the 1960s and 70s is clearly visible today in the cities of the Ruhr area. Almost at the same time incipient decline of the coal and steel industries is blatantly contrasts. As examples of architectural and urbanistic characters this time are the focus of yesterday, the city of tomorrow:

  • the new town centre with town hall in Marl
  • the Ruhr-Universität Bochum
  • the Forum city in Mülheim an der Ruhr

Invited artists reflect the current perception of these architectures in artistic work and facing the already existing places new, temporary works.

The three participating museums show exhibitions which art history to deepen the thematic approach of the project and establish a connection between the (foreign) spaces of the city and the (indoor) premises of the institutions parallel to the work in the public space.
